K2 Expedition Overview

Placed between the borders of  China and Pakistan, K2 (8611M/28,251ft) is the second highest peak in the world. K2 is located in the Karakoram Range and lies partly in a Chinese-administered enclave of the Kashmir region within the Uygur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang of China. The main summit is between Baltistan, in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of northern Pakistan.

K2 is also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu,and Mount Godwin-Austen. Meanwhile, some nations refer to it as “Savage Mountain” due to its extreme difficulty. It has the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousands. There are few climbing routes in K2 from Pakistan. While a record of 78 % of climbers successfully reach the summit through the South side route, the remaining 22 % of climbers climb from North, East, West ridge, Southwest Pillar  "Magic Line", South Face or "Polish Line", Northwest Face, or Northwest Ridge . Normal climbing route (North ridge) is also known as Almost Abruzzi Spur. According to the Pakistan government record or mountain record, no one has climbed the East Face of the mountain due to the level of difficulty. K2 has also never been climbed during winter season.

Satori Adventures offers and operates K2 (8611M/28,251ft.) expedition every year in the summer season. For reasons such as: Weather conditions, snow conditions, temperature, road conditions, and flights. Most of the expedition operators offer the trip in the summer season.

The first ascent of K2 was completed by an Italian expedition team which was led by Mr. Ardito Desiofinally. His team Mr. Lino Lacedelli and Mr. Achille Compagnoni successfully ascended to the summit of K2 (8611m/28,251ft) via the Abruzzi Spur climbing route on July 31, 1954. Its allure arises from the combination of it’s isolation, weather extremes, great altitude and technical climbing demands. K2 is a very serious and compelling objective. Satori Adventures always keeps team sizes small and requires that climbers are composed and qualified, assuring our clients a safe and successful summit. They have the support of some of the best climbing Sherpa's and mountain guides in the world.

K2 (8611m /28,251ft) summit is located at: Latitude 35°52′57″N longitude 76°30′48″E. The Advanced base camp is always fixed around (5305m/17,400ft). Most expedition teams fix four camps above the Advanced Base Camp. Camp I (6060m/19,881ft) Camp II (6700m/21,981ft) Camp III (7250m/23,786ft) and Camp IV (7700m/25,262ft). On the normal climbing route there is less space at Camp I and Camp II. There is only space for 7-8 tents maximum. Thus, if our expedition group arrives late in the season, we may need to  share a tent with other team members. However, K2 peak is not nearly as crowded as Everest or Cho-Oyu.

In close collaboration with our outfitter, Satori Adventures provides full board support service to K2 expedition with 1:1 climbing Sherpa guide. Satori also provides a standard support of base-camp services. However, we highly advice clients to use full board services because K2 is one of the most technical climbs among 17th

8000m mountain. With expertise in high altitude mountaineering, Satori Adventures delivers both safety and high quality in a challenging high altitude environment. With an innovative approach to high altitude climbing and qualified, experienced and trained climbing Sherpa guides, we delivers high success rates for our peak climbing and mountaineering clients.

On our climbing and mountaineering adventures in K2 expedition we use UHF/VHF radio communication equipment as a standard to improve climber's communications and safety. We have developed a very efficient and effective mountain rescue procedures ensuring ultimate safety for clients in high altitude distress and our adventures have been designed by high altitude exercise physiologists. We also provide set light phones for emergency and as a way to connect with family members at home.

Good to Know

Satori Adventures has not able to include the cost of each package in the company website. Many of our clients have the same query: why Satori Adventures has not included the price in the package. To provide you service in reasonable cost and attempt to address your each requirement we desired to provide you with some information which directly affects the cost and also helps us breakdown the cost. That’s why, we have decided to clarify our customers that due to following reasons we have not included the cost in our website and package:

  • The cost of the trip always depends on the size of the group, category of the hotel accommodation and the facilities that you aspire in the mountain.
  • We operate the peak climbing in full arrangement package and basic arrangement service (full board or base camp service) which directly affects the expedition cost.
  • The itinerary may be changed after reaching an understanding between the agency and the client. Other activities could be added or reduced as per the client's request before processing the trip. Price for reduced activities could be deducted and additional activities could be added in mutual understanding.
  • The number of climbing Sherpa guides, high altitude porters, kitchen crew, mode of transport you prefer and many other factors can affect the cost of the trip.
  • Number of persons in group including; number of climbers, non-climber, base camp supporters, medical doctors, Alpine climbing guide also affect the cost.
  • Either you want to operate this expedition as international group joining basics of Satori Adventures or individual (private arrangement) expedition.
  • Request numbers of oxygen, mask regulators and the brands the clients require
  • Climbing season: normally most of the climbers climb Himalayas in the spring and the autumn season. The climbing permit royalty cost for mountain will be 50% less in the autumn than spring season.
  • Type of high camp food that clients require. Any specialized food that has to be ordered from foreign country will be costlier compared to the one available here.
  • Either any of the climbers intend to attempt any world records? If so, do they require special services or equipment?

Due to the above position the price range for the same trip can vary widely. So, we would like to discuss with our client before offering the cost. Please feel free to contact Satori Adventures for any information about in your selected package.
